Rotating Magnet Ranging System (RMRS) for Drilling SAGD Wells
RMRS uses a magnetic bit sub in combination with a wireline receiver tool to precisely control the separation of Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) well pairs. Vertical and horizontal separations are measured with precision of a few tenths of a meter while drilling the second well. Using RMRS a second well is drilled with respect to the first well rather than distant surface coordinates, eliminating position uncertainty and the effects of magnetic interference.
