Case History: Re-Entry and Plug and Abandonment

A brine well next to the Ohio River needed to be plugged and abandoned because of a loss in casing integrity. After several unsuccessful attempts to plug the well from surface, a relief well intersection was determined to be the only viable method.

Wellspot guided drilling operations from 3,000 to 4,425 feet, where the relief well drill string made contact at less than one degree difference in inclination with the target casing. Only one mill run was required to cut a window and a cement packer was successfully set in the target well at approximately 5,000 feet. The well was successfully cemented and abandoned.
