Case History: Subsurface Re-Entry

West Texas

Before a depleted reservoir could be converted to gas storage, the integrity of an earlier plug and abandonment had to be verified. The 8 5/8" casing had been pulled and open hole existed from 410' to 2412'. The operator's attempt to follow the open hole and re-enter the casing stub was unsuccessful, resulting in an open hole sidetrack.

Wellspot™ was utilized to direct directional drilling and milling of a re-entry window into the 8 5/8" casing at 3062'. A 7 7/8" bit was run through the window to 3500', where the well was properly squeezed and abandoned.
